The Problem of Censorship in the US - 949 Words

Censorship The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States protects the people of the country from censorship. This document says that people have to be free to say whatever it is that they feel the need to say, even if that statement is controversial. Actually, it is promised that people can say things especially when they are controversial. People who want to censor others do so because they do not agree with what it is that is being said. Only be protecting the First Amendment completely, and by not allowing censorship in any form can we continue to be completely free. Incidences of violence have been occurring more and more rapidly throughout the world and particularly in the United States. Even schools, places where children go to learn and are supposed to be safe, are now the locations of violence and death. After the school shooting which occurred at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, and people blamed the violent music which the two young men listened to (Manson). Surely, the people thought, if it had not been for music which suggested anger and violence, and then the young men would not have done what they did. And so, the people wanted to ban the music and blame the musicians, including Marilyn Manson. This is of course ridiculous. Yes, the boys may have listened to violent and dark music but that does not mean they were brainwashed or hypnotized into action.
